Between a Man and a Shadow
Digital video, altered 8mm film, stop motion, 6min 38 sec, 2020
Lost photos hold a mysterious tragedy. The life within them has been severed of any context. In 2019, I found a box in the trash with decades worth of family photos and 8mm film. This video is drawn from the smallest fraction of those memories as a way to explore the after life of images - when they stop functioning as a memory and become fragments of projection and imagination. As I worked with the film I ran it through degrading processes including sandpaper and bleach baths. As I worked, the memory of the memory faded away and left me with a strip of almost clear plastic.
