Undertow
16mm film + digital sound, 4min 2sec, 2019
The coast of Toronto Island is constantly shifting in response to both natural and manmade forces. In Undertow, abstractions of these cycles of erosion and generation are double exposed onto 16mm film, showing the coast itself. Parts of the film are treated with bleach, so that the image itself erodes. Created while in residency at Artscape Gibraltar Point.
